Pirate4x4.com’s New Van Wrap

Monday, January 18th, 2010

pirate-wrap4Lance and Camo from Pirate4x4 have become very good friends over the years.  These guys have their hands full running the LARGEST hardcore rock crawler forum in the world.  Over one million visitors read the pages of Pirate4x4 each month.  Many people consider Pirate4x4 to be the birthplace of many industry changing concepts within the offroad community.  Be sure to visit Pirate4x4 for all of the hardcore wheeling, wrenching, fabricating, and of course flaming you can stand.

When I told Lance and Camo I was leaving the fabrication they were shocked, but understood my need to be closer to family.  After about 30 “wow’s” and few other colorful comments, Camo asked, “What are your going to do now?”  Camo and I talked about the graphic design work I had been doing for years and how I planned to transition to it full time. So, the guys at Pirate4x4 did not waste any time putting me to work designing a vinyl wrap for their new communications van.  The van is a 1986 Ford Econoline F350.  Getting this project started was a little more difficult than most projects. The difficulty may have been the overwhelming need to make sure the van expressed the Pirate 4×4 attitude.  A local search to find a matching van to build the custom templates yielded zero results.  I told Lance and Camo what I needed from them, and we set the plan into action to get the Pirate4x4 van wrapped.

After many hours trying to think of a suitable design for the Pirate4x4 van I kept coming back to black and duh a lot of skulls.  Lance and Camo approved the artwork and then I mailed off the goods to our friends at Bighorn to print and install the design.  Normally I would design, print, and install the project here, or at least design, print, and ship it.  The Pirate4x4 Van Wrap project involved a number of active vendors from Pirate.  Bighorn (Scott) is another graphics guy on Pirate who shared the task of completing the vinyl wrap project.  After printing the job one of their guys flew out to the Pirate4x4 world headquarters to install the vinyl wrap.  I would like to add we did have a little issue with the United States Postal Service, but it was taken care of quickly. In the end, MANY vendors came together to help Pirate4x4 transform an average everyday blue van into a desert going signal transmitting pimp wagon.  If you are into rock crawling be sure to support the sponsoring vendors of Pirate4x4.

Take a look at the Pirate4x4 Media Van Wrap.  The project is not complete.  Pieces will be added on the side windows to carry the sword over the glass like it should.  The original design called for window perf to carry the graphic design onto the windows, but the Pirate4x4 staff opted for solid vinyl to be contour cut around the sword handle.  These pieces will be added in the near future.  As soon as the Pirate Staff gets more pictures to me I will update the post.

Rare Quality Models and Talent Vinyl Stickers

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

rqmsticker_gotmodels-copyDonna from Rare Quality Models and Talent requested a vinyl sticker to use as a giveaway item.  The idea for the sticker is for kids to place the stickers on their school books, cars, or where ever they feel like tagging the vinyl sticker.  The sticker needed to stay small in size for a couple reasons.  Smaller means the vinyl sticker will be cheaper, and smaller means the vinyl sticker can be applied in more places.  A 12 inch tall sticker would be very effective but RQ Models was not going for a long viewing distance with this vinyl sticker design.

The RQ Models stickers were printed black and white on high quality vinyl, then laminated to protect the ink from wear, and finally contour cut around the perimeter.  The total size for the RQ Models sticker is roughly 4 inches tall and 2.5 inches wide.

Stickers like this one can be a cheap and effective means to advertise your company.  Be sure to contact 509 Media today to discuss possible branding solutions for your company, club, or nonprofit.

Business Cards for RPM Offroad

Monday, January 11th, 2010

rpm-offroad-business-cardsRPM Offroad located in Bristol, Tennesse contacted 509 Media to create a new design for their business cards.  The card RPM Offroad currently has in use is UV coated front and rear prohibiting them from writing on the business card.  509 Media designed a business card for their offroad company which yields an area on the rear of the card to make notes.  UV coating will be added to the front side of the business cards to make them shine.  On the rear of the business card the UV coating will not be applied giving it a matte finish. Thus allowing notes to be written on the rear of the card if needed.  The business cards for RPM Offroad wll be printed in full color on 16 pt card stock.  The full color print will extend all the way to the edge of the business cards.

509 Media offers a wide range of brand identity products.  If your company would like to consult with 509 Media please CONTACT us anytime.

Alabama State Seal Sticker

The Alabama State Seal vinyl stickers rolled off of 509 Media’s printer a while back for the Houston County Sheriff Department. The stickers were printed on Avery 1005 EZRS and then laminated to protect the inks for harmful UV damage.  The seal was placed on all of the Deputy Sheriff cars in Houston County. The Alabama State Seal was printed and contour cut to 4 inches square.  The seal was then added to some basic vinyl cut letting on the Sheriff cars.

I guess printing stickers for the sheriff department does not make you exempt from them doing their job.  Not too long after printing the stickers I got an up close look at the Alabama State Seal stickers in use.  I admit it I was speeding home one night and received a not so nice speeding ticket.

If you are sourcing fleet graphics for a police car, sheriff car, fire truck, ambulance, or other rescue vehicle be sure to CONTACT 509 Media for a quote on all of your vinyl graphic needs.  We can cut reflective vinyl, print reflective vinyl, provide you with gold leaf vinyl graphic lettering for fire trucks, and other fleet related vinyl graphics.

Contour Cut Vinyl Stickers for Offroad Film Company

Contour Cut Stickers

Contour cut stickers are more professional looking than a square box or oval cut around your company logo.  A contour cut follows the edge of your logo or design to ensure a clean looking peel and stick stickerBusted Knuckle Films wanted 509 Media to print and contour cut stickers to pass out to fans at off-roading events they attend filming for their DVD series. The result is a clean looking full color vinyl sticker which can easily be applied to a vehicle, toolbox, or what ever you want to place it on.

The dark background texture will not be part of the sticker.  If I placed the white bordered sticker on a white background the contour cut would not show up on your screen.  I will add some pictures of the actual stickers soon.

509 Media offers a wide range of digital printing.  Be sure to CONTACT us to help with your marketing efforts.

Contour Cut Full Color Stickers for Country Crossings

Friday, January 8th, 2010

dsc_8133I got a call from a Dothan area sign shop to print 10 inch round Country Crossing Stickers a few days before the troubles began or them with this week’s shut down “due to safety” reason.  I guess Country Crossing was attempting to have their valet parking signs in place before the law enforcement raid.  If you have not heard the story about Country Crossing be sure to check out Rick Stokes News for more details.  Country Crossings is back open for business.  Be sure to visit their website.

Anyway back to the important issue at hand.  Printed, laminated, and contour cut stickers.  The stickers were printed on our 64″ Mutoh Toucan LT with wave technology.  The vinyl used on the full color stickers for this project was 3M CV3.  The vinyl is expensive to make a simple sticker but the signs Country Crossing needed to use them will be left outside.

If you have no clue what a contour cut is I will explain.  It is a vector path placed around the outside shape of the graphic thus cutting the image out. A vector path in simple terms is a line drawn the computer to let them plotter know where to cut the stickers out..  The more curves in a design the more difficult it can become to create the contour cut.  There is not a lot special about the Country Crossing stickers.  I though I would share for those interested in reading.

Please note 509 Media is NOT the grapgic designer for the Country Crossing logo design.

iPhone Skins for Droopy and Kim Sears of Rock Out Racing

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

pinkrockout_iphoneIf you have been anywhere around rock racing over the past few years the names Droopy (Nathaniel) and Kim Sears will ring a bell.  Droopy and Kim are a husband and wife team competing in professional rock racing. Their team name is Rock Out Racing.  It is very cool to see female drivers getting it on the course.  Be sure to look out for the Droopy and Kim Sears in featured articles on the net and printed publications.

I should mention the iPhone skin as the skin is the reason for making this post.  Droopy sent a message to me a few days ago asking for some iPhone skins to help promote their race team brand.  He wanted to a graphic design for his wife with pink elements added.  Rather than changing the color of the logo to pink I dropped in a pink pattern in the back ground and added a few effects which resulted in what you see.  If you would like to discuss branding opportunities with 509 Media be sure to contact us.  We can build custom graphic designs to suit the need of your race team or company.

For more information on Rock Out Racing and rock racing be sure to visit their website.  You will find pictures from events such as King Of The Hammers, XRRA, and more.  Tell them 509 Media sent you.
