Solidworks Drawing of a Manual Tubing Bender

Saturday, February 26th, 2011

sportsman-bender-edrawing4Solidworks allows the designer to create a product on the computer as a complete assemble.  From each drawing in the assembly the product can be manufactured.  Solidworks allows the operator to build the product out and how parts interact.  If there are any moving parts in the assembly they can be cycled to make sure the end result will be desirable before actually manufacturing the product.

The JMR Sportsman Tube Bender project was modeled in Solidworks.  From the 3d Model we can create marketing materials, instruction manuals and more.  The next phase of this project will be creating an assembly manual to be shipped with each Sportsman Tube Bender sold.  Be sure to check back soon.  I will be adding the assembly / instruction manual for the tube bender soon.

QR Code Business Card Design Durden Outdoor

Saturday, February 26th, 2011

qr-code-business-cardsThe Durden Outdoor business card project is much more involved than what appears when reading this blog post.  I have been working with Durden Outdoor since mid December 2010 to develop a new look, new marketing materials, and to freshen their marketing approach.  Sometimes it is nice to have someone step in and help with a fresh perspective.  The business card was developed after working on a few other marketing pieces for Durden Outdoor.  The first step in the plan was to begin working on a new website to better represent the billboards offered in the Dothan and surrounding markets.  Once the direction was determined with the new Durden website we made plans for collateral marketing materials.

The business card design features a few design elements to help it stand out.  At first glance you see the QR Code placed on the information side of the business cards.  A QR Code can easily be scanned with most smart phones.  Once scanned it is easy to transfer the information to your contact list without the need to type out all of the information.  QR Codes are a great conversation starter because many people will ask what the QR Code is.

When designing the business card we choose to apply spot UV to give the card a more dynamic appearance.  Spot UV simply means certain parts of the business card are shiny leaving the remaining space matte finish.  Spot UV adds a great effect to business cards to help you stand out in the crowd.

The Durden Outdoor business cards were printed on a heavy 16 pt card stock for a quality feel.  The business cards are printed full bleed meaning the color goes all the way to the edges.  If you have any questions or comments be sure to post up below.

Busted Knuckle Films New Business Cards

Monday, January 24th, 2011

busted_knuckle_business-cards-fPlaying in the dirt, breaking things, going fast, rolling over, flipping, catching on fire, slicing tires, and victory are all things Busted Knuckle Films catches on film to show all of the couch potatoes what it is like to live.  Busted Knuckle Films came onto the scene a little over a year ago with their first DVD highlighting Southern style off-roading at it’s finest. A year has past and a lot more exciting footage has been captured.  Busted Knuckle Films has been putting the work in to step their game up through better equipment and more refined video editing. Be sure to catch some of their upcoming releases.

Busted Knuckle Films is headed out for the 2011 King of the Hammers race in southern California in a couple weeks.  If you know anything about the offroad industry you will know King of the Hammers (KOH) is taking the offroad scene by storm.  Thousands of people are making the trip out to the dry lake bed to create a city called Hammertown to see their favorite drivers take on the impossible race. Busted Knuckle needed some new business cards to hand out.  The business card design had very little input from the client.  Basically I was told to do my thing and make it look cool.  I took the idea of dirt and the desert to create a grunge style business card for Busted Knuckle.  The cards are being printed on matte finish 16 pt card stock.  The matte finish will help give the card an old look and feel.  Not to mention the matte finish will also allow small notes to be written on the business cards if needed.

Let me know what you think.  Leave a comment below.  If you have any questions or would like to hire me to draw some custom business cards for your company be sure to contact me.

Piggly Wiggly Billboard with Extensions

Monday, January 24th, 2011

piggly-wiggly-billboard-1The Piggly Wiggly project was fun to work on.  There are a few key points that needed to be covered when designing the billboard.  The billboard needed to help further establish the Piggly Wiggly brand identity, it needed to direct people to the grocery store, and needed to state “Lowest meat prices in Dothan”.  The additional copy on the billboard was information the client wanted on the sign. When designing billboards it is very important to understand the amount of time someone will have to view the graphic, and how far away they will be when viewing it.

We added the extensions to the billboard to give it a little extra character and to bring more attention to “The Pig”.  The Pig in the Piggly Wiggly logo is the focal point. Extensions carry the pig shape outside of the standard billboard frame extending it into space.  Special frames have to be fabricated to hold the printed extensions.  Many years ago while in high school my first paying job was at Piggly Wiggly stocking shelves and bagging groceries.  In those days I would have never imagined drawing a billboard sign for Piggly Wiggly.

Heard Magnet School Apply Now Yard Signs

Monday, January 24th, 2011

509media-4534Heard Magnet School in Dothan, Alabama is getting ready for open enrollment where parents can submit applications for their children to attend the school. Mrs. Maddox, the school Principle, asked me to design yard signs to let parents in the neighborhood know they can apply. The dates for applications were left off of the yard signs intentionally to allow the school to use them at other times of the year and in the future if needed.

The yard signs are printed in full color directly on coroplast for a low cost effective way to advertise. Coroplast can be described as corrugated plastic. If you have ever looked at a political yard sign most likely it was made out the same type material.

If you found your way to my blog looking for a way to apply for admission to Heard Magnet School please direct your calls to 334-794-1471.

Auto Investors Classic Car Business Cards

Monday, January 17th, 2011

autonvest_samplesAuto Investors is a Dothan, Alabama based classic car company.  If you ever watch the Barrett Jackson Auction on television you will have the opportunity to see some of the cars Auto Investors has in inventory.  They have been selling cars at Barrett Jackson for years.  If you are ever in Dothan and want to see some of the coolest classic cars around I recommend stopping by to have a look at their inventory.  Make sure to bring some money along because all of their cars are for sale.

I went by a few days ago to take some pictures for a design project I am working on.  While there I was asked to design some new business cards for them.  I was supplied a picture for the front of the business card.  The picture needed some Photoshop work done to clean up the picture and to make the picture appear to be aged.  I added the text using a color from the aged picture effect and added a red pin stripe to add a little color to the business card design.

The rear face of the business cards was kept very simple.  It has a very light print to preserve the surface for writing notes.  Both the rear and front surfaces of the card will be matte finish to help preserve the classic look.

Zumba Fitness with Pamela Banner Design

Monday, January 17th, 2011

zumbawithpamela_banner3x6rev1A local Zumba Fitness instructor asked me to design a banner to help her advertise the Zumba Fitness classes she teaches in Dothan, Alabama.  The banner will hang in front of two different location in town where she instructs people on the art of Zumba Fitness.  I meet with Pamela’s husband to discuss colors and what information needed to be listed on the banners.  It was determined the banners needed to be 3 feet tall and 6 feet long.  From there I set up the graphic design and applied the magic.  The end result is a bright banner to accent the high energy Zumba Fitness classes Pamela teaches.  The banner will be printed on 13 oz matte finish weatherproof banner material.

Business Card Design for Outdoor Logic

Saturday, January 8th, 2011

outdoorlogic_businesscardsI recently completed a new logo design for Outdoor Logic. As soon as Jimmy and crew at Outdoor Logic approved the logo I went to work designing custom business cards to represent their offroad fabrication shop in Riverside, California.  The business card design utilizes the logo design and a couple design elements Outdoor Logic wanted to see.  The old school pin stripe is a design element they liked in a previous design mock I emailed to them so we decided to keep it.  The business cards are full color front and rear with a UV coat placed on the front side only.  The cards were printed on 16 pt card stock for a nice heavy feeling business card.  Check them out and other business card projects here on 509 Media.

Logo Design for Outdoor Logic in Riverside, CA

Saturday, January 8th, 2011

outdoorlogic_logo_design

Outdoor Logic specializes in expedition style offroad vehicles.  Their fabrication shop is located in Riverside, CA not too far from and friend of mines fabrication school The Fab School.  Outdoor Logic contacted me in need of a new logo design to represent their brand.  The new logo needed to be simple.  It needed to have the ability to cut the icon into fabricated metal products they are custom building.

The Outdoor Logic logo uses negative space on the icon to create the “L” for logic.  When being cut into steel plate the colored parts of the icon will drop out leaving the “L” shape in the part.  The attached image of the logo design shows the design being used with different colors.  The logo very easily stands on its on in black and white as well.
