RC Rock Crawler Graphics for WabFab

wabfab_grappler_final

I am working on skins for two rc crawler for Wabfab.  He picked up a couple new crawlers to be part of his sons’ Christmas.  They are both Axial rc rock crawlers.  The stock bodies did not look “truck enough”.  The Losi Grappler body was picked because it looks much more like a truck.  Being in the aftermarket offroad parts business for Toyota trucks WabFab wanted something to match his business profile a little better.  Sure he could build some scale Toyota rc trucks, but these are for his young boys.

Check out the graphics and let me know what you think.

Here are a few pics of the RC graphics kit installed on the Losi Grappler body.  I will get some better pictures before shipping them out tomorrow.  I have to add the two boy’s names to the bodies.  I am going to do this with cut vinyl letters.  I did not add the names to the wraps because I wanted the wrap to stay universal.  If they want to replace panels it will require less to repurchase.

Advertising Choices and Why You Need A Plan

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

Radio, Television, Internet, Magazines, Local Newspapers, National Newspapers, Mobile Advertising, Billboards, Movie Theater Ads, Classified Ads, Craigslist, Yellow Pages, and many more are places a business can advertise their products and/or services.  In each genre of advertising there are many different ways to advertise.  For instance news papers have classified ads and ad space within the content of the newspaper for you to choose from.  When looking at the myriad of choices in advertising no wonder many people are confused about what direction to take or how to use their selected means of advertising effectively.  Before purchasing any adverting you must get a plan together.  You must see the big picture.  The shot gun approach to advertising is not going to work.  Without a plan people often switch from one advertisement to another which is all wrong.

I was talking with a client today who was considering taking down an ad on a very popular website just because of the cost.  I don’t think the decision to remove an ad should be made based on cost alone.  Of course you have to factor in how much you can afford, but at the same time you need to factor in if you can afford not to run the advertisement.  A fundamental mistake often made by business owners is not allowing the ad a decent amount of time to be effective.  I see people all the time who pay for advertising and after only 30 days they want to change because it is not giving the results they hoped for.

Let me explain an example to you.  A company runs an ad in the back of a magazine offering a specialized product.  The product is not offered by many other vendors so the company does not have a lot of competition selling similar items.  Lets just say the ad cost the vendor 1000 dollars per month.  After one month the ad yielded sales of 700 dollars.  Given the cost to produce and ship the item plus the marketing cost with the magazine ad there is a loss for the month with the ad.  So the vendor wants to remove the ad.  On the surface this may appear to be a cut and dry decision, but there are somethings you have to understand about advertising.

Advertising in some cases creates a sale the very first time, but more often the potential customer has to see the add many times before getting interested to consider making a purchase.  I am not going to get into the mechanics of how people decide to purchase as items.  If you all would like to engage this discussion please comment below.  I will be more than happy to write another post on the topic.

Back to the point, It normally takes a minimum of 3 months running a magazine ad to yield positive results.  When people see the ad the first time they may over look the ad all together.  The second time they see the ad they may acknowledge the ad.  The third time they may read the advertisement.  OK, fast forward to the customer thinking they need the item and wondering where they saw the advertisement.  Here comes the problem of not letting an ad run and do its job.  it is now a couple months later and this potential customer picks up a new edition of the magazine and flips straight to the back looking for the ad.  Since the ad was removed the sale is lost because the customer can not find where to purchase the item.

The above is a really simple to the point example.  The point here is you have to give your advertisement time to work.  You have to give people time to first notice the ad and then to read the ad.  You have to be consistent with your advertising and give it time to develop results.  This does not mean put ads up everywhere and leave them.  You educate yourself about who will see the ad, and determine if this demographic is your target market.  I would not place parts for a sport bike in a home and garden magazine.  You need to determine how many people will see the ad.  This is also known as impressions.  Based on the cost for the advertisement you can then determine cost per impression.  This will give you a base point to compare one advertising mean to another.

Rockstar Personal Branding

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

“Personal branding isn’t very different than product branding, except that the entity being branded is you. Just like Nike uses its brand to attach a certain personality and uniqueness to the shoes it sells, your personal brand is made up of the qualities and unique traits you relay about yourself. Your personal brand represents the way you want other people to think about you.

Personal branding hinges on perception and the stories you tell about yourself: the things you emphasize and the things you don’t. Does personal branding involve lying? It shouldn’t. More than that, it shouldn’t have to. You don’t need to be a rockstar to build an extraordinary personal brand.” — From Rockstar Personal Branding by Skellie

Some may be wondering why I am posting this on 509 Media.  509 Media is in the business to help people with branding.  Branding a product, person, or service is very important in the market place.  The more known the brand the further your footprint in your given industry will reach.  Personal Branding is much like branding a product.  If people know you and your service the comfort level in doing business with you will be higher.  In the past I worked very hard to build a company brand, but at the same time I was working to build a personal brand.  I wanted people to know if they do business with me I would take care of them.  I wanted them to know I was a knowledgeable resource in my industry.  I wanted them to know if I didn’t have the correct answer I would get it.  Person branding in some ways can be like building trust in the market place.

Southern Shenanigans DVD Artwork

Monday, December 14th, 2009

sample1-mail

Busted Knuckle Films contacted 509 Media to layout the graphic design for their Southern Shenanigans DVD which was released this month just in time for Christmas.  I had a friend Jeremy help on this project due to the time frame and the current work load we have.  Jeremy did a great job on this project allowing us to close the project before the deadline.

dvd_face-printThe DVD insert and DVD insert were designed using Adobe Photoshop.  Once we got into the project we noticed the logo Busted Knuckle Films was used by another company.  After a quick discussion we contacted BK Films to let them know about the issue.  Jeremy reworked the logo design to loose the clip art fist used on the original logo design.  The end result is a more realistic looking fist on the logo.

509 Media is not involved in the filming, production, editing, or distribution of the DVD.  If you need DVD artwork and / or DVD duplications made be sure to contact 509 Media.

Website Design for RC Fun Hobbies

rc-fun-hobbies-website

RC Fun Hobbies in the Dothan, Alabama area was in need of some help with their WordPress site.  509 Media was there to answer the call.  WordPress is a very effective platform to build a website from.  While WordPress is a free source code to build a website from you will need to modify the code to make it look the way you want.  Many people think WordPress is only used for blogs about a given subject.  The notion is far from what can be accomplished with a well designed WordPress website.

The owner of RC Fun Hobbies wanted an easy to change website he and his staff could add or remove information as needed.  WordPress is very easy to add new content and edit the information. In today’s internet environment new up to date information is very important.  WordPress, with a little help, is very effective with SEO or Search Engine Optimization.  Too often people get caught up on how their website looks forgetting the major search engines can not index nice pretty pictures.  Being found on the major search engines such as Google and Yahoo is all about content.  Content is typed information.  Being found can increase your chances of making the sale and depositing the results into your bank account.

WordPress is the answer to many of the needs RC Fun Hobbies has now and in the foreseeable future.  RC Fun can add up to date track conditions, information about new products in the store, and coverage of special events at their multiple track facility.

509 Media works with clients around the world for graphic design and web design.  If your company is in need of a custom website or a custom WordPress theme be sure to contact us for a quote.

We are not finished with the RC Fun Hobbies website.  We will be adding more to their website over the next few days and reworking some of the pages they created earlier.  We are also adding a CRE Loaded e-commerce platform to the site as well.

JMR Manufacturing Business Cards

Monday, December 7th, 2009

Jim at JMR Manufacturing called me Friday in need of some business cards for the PRI Show in Orlando this week.  Quick turn around is not a problem for 509 Media.  We will be overnight shipping the business cards directly to Jim’s hotel in Orlando just in time for the trade show.

The business card 509 Media put together for JMR was simple and to the point.  The bright yellow back ground matches the large banners they have as well as the race truck pictured on JMR’s website.  We did two versions of the business card.  The first has Jim’s name and the second business card is a blank card anyone else in the company can use.  The front side of the card is UV coated to make it shine and the rear is a matte finish so it can be written on.

If you are in need of quality fabrication equipment be sure to look up JMR.  If you have been around tube bending, notching, and other vehicle related fabrication methods you have more than likely came across a JMR Manufacturing product.

If you are in need of business cards feel free to contact us.  We will be happy to quote your project.

OpenOffice.org

Sunday, December 6th, 2009

why_homeI know Open Office does not have a lot to do with graphics, wraps, stickers, or banners.  I am posting because times are hard and a lot of people do not have the coin to buy Microsoft Office.  Open Office is a free download and is the leading open-source office software suite for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases, and more.  Open Office stores data in an international open standard format and can also read and write files from other common office software packages.  I can be downloaded and for free by visiting OpenOffice.org.

For someone looking to save a little money Open Office may be a great solution.  Visit their website for more information.  Be sure to check back  to 509 Media for other suggestions.

Do It Right Lawn Care Website

Friday, December 4th, 2009

509 Media has been working hard to help Do It Right Lawn Care set them self apart from the myriad of other lawn care companies in the area. Do It Right Lawn Care has been around for years serving people in the Dothan, AL area. One of the goals in wrapping their truck, building a new website, and re imaging other parts of their marketing campaign was to let people know they are serious about their business.  Do It Right Lawn Care wanted to let their client base know they are dealing with a professional lawn care company.

We choose WordPress as the platform for this site because of it’s ease of use on the back end for the client. If you can type a letter in MS Word you can make posts on a WordPress site. It operates with a WYSIWYG set up. What this means to the client is adding / editing a new post or page is easy because what you type and how you see it will be how it displays on the website. It is also very easy for the client to add video and pictures to this style of website.

Check out Do It Right Lawn Care‘s NEW home on the web.
