IH8mud.com and Rockcrawler.com Business Cards

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

Some of you many know Woody from IH8MUD.com which a forum focused on Toyota FJ40′s.  Woody recently bought RockCrawler.Com, a news based site, from Mike of 4x4RockShop.  Woody has some great plans for Rockcrawler.com.  I have always felt the site had a lot of potential with rock crawling gaining so much popularity around the world.

Woody saw some of the business cards 509 Media has been knocking out and wanted some for his companies.  After a couple emails 509 Media executed a plan for a new business card.  The design idea was to make the card look scratched up and worn.  We are not going to add UV coating to these cards.  We are going for the matte finish to add to the old and worn look.  On the back side of the card we kept a “write box” so notes can be written if needed.

509 Media on Car Domain

509 Media on Car Domain

I know… Car Domain is filled with people posting vehicles that do not belong to them.  I started a page there for different reasons.  The main reason is Search Engine Optimization for 509 Media or otherwise know as SEO.  By posting on Car Domain it creates a back link.  Back links from high ranking websites are better than back links from low ranking sites.  The more back links you create the better your website will rank with the search engines.  There are many other things to consider when looking at SEO on your site.  This is just one small way to better your chances of being found on the net.

At the time I posted this Car Domain has an Alexa web rank of 4286. By creating a back link here it is a permanent back link unlike Craigslist and eBay where your link is short lived.  On Craigslist your ad is deleted after thirty days.

Just another tip for those looking to better SEO on their website and increase traffic.  If you have any questions or would like help with your website be sure to contact me.

Perforated Window Vinyl

Window Perf Pealed back to show adhesive side.

Over the weekend I decided to put together a post covering Perforated Window Vinyl also called Window Perf.  The main purpose of perforated window vinyl is to display a graphic on a window and allow visibility from inside the building or vehicle.  Window perf is a printable vinyl that has holes to allow light through.  The holes determine print quality.  On a 50/50 window perf you have 50 percent graphic coverage and 50 percent holes.  With 70/30 you can get a little better print quality because the graphic is covering more of the surface.  I would like to point out 50/50 is easier to see through.  In automotive use you might want to see a little better.

Perforated Window Vinyl can be used in many different applications.  It can cover store front windows and vehicle windows with an advertisement or other graphic. Perforated Window Vinyl is a good choice for vehicle wraps when you want to carry design elements larger.  Other uses for Perforated Window Vinyl can be wrapping tail lights on a camo wrapped truck.  The idea here is to print the camo pattern on perf and then wrap the tail light.  The red light will show through the holes when the lights are on.

Window Perf Print Side

Just about any graphic or photograph can be printed on Perforated Window Vinyl.  Keep in mind when printing large format the image quality and size does matter.  When printing on perf you can get away with a lower quality images because all of the little holes will take away from the print quality a little.

If you have a custom Perforated Window Vinyl project that you would like to discuss please feel free to contact me.

You can see in the pictures the adhesive side of the vinyl is dark and the print side is white.  The back side is dark so the light coming through will be brighter than the vinyl allowing you to see through the perf.

Toyota FJ40 Rock Crawler Vehicle Wrap

Monday, November 30th, 2009

dsc_2839Over the years I have built a lot of rock crawlers, broke a lot of parts, and spent way too much money chasing a passion.  I am not alone, many others join me everyday to dream, customize, and test their rock crawlers to the max.  A good friend of mine Nick Justice is no different.  He and another friend of ours chopped this Toyota FJ40 up and created their version of a rock crawler. They built a 4 link suspension in the rear and added coil over shocks.  In my opinion the moved the rear axle way too far back, but it is Nick’s FJ40 not mine.  Nick has since sold the rock crawler and started building rc crawlers. Nick laughs as he tells people rc rock crawlers are a lot cheaper.

On to the wrap.  After completing the fabrication work Nick loaded the FJ40 up and hauled it dsc_2821to the little dot at the bottom of the map called Dothan, AL to add some color and attitude.  He wanted skulls, fire, and naked chicks in the wrap.  How could I turn down that request.  The naked chicks were wrapped around some 3D skulls that I had drawn up for the wrap.  Yes, they were hidden.  You had to know where to look and what to look for to locate them.  I didn’t want the wrap to offend people.

This wrap was completed about 4 years ago.  Nick wanted me to post up pics of the wrap because he lost all of the pics of the FJ40 rock crawler after selling it.  So Nick this post is for you.

Squidoo A Free Way To Better SEO

Squidoo

Some may ask, “What is SEO and is important to me?”  If you want to increase traffic and make your website more visible SEO should be very important to you.  The purpose of this post is not to detail all of the ways to pay attention to SEO which is “Search Engine Optimization”.  There are many good articles from leading experts on the subject of SEO on the internet.  Lynda.Com and YouTube both have many good videos on the subject.

One key thing which will improve your page rank is to have back links.  Back links are other sites that have your url listed linking back to your site.  You want to have your back links coming from high ranking sites.  If all of your back links are coming from low ranking sites it does not carry much weight when compared to just a few high ranking sites.  It is better to have large high ranking sites back link to your website.  How do you get back links?  Back links are done with a little work on your part.

Higher ranking sites like FaceBook, Squidoo, Myspace, Large forums, and so on can be good places to start getting back links for free.  I am writing this article about Squidoo.  Squidoo is a website with a Alexa rank around 297 at the time of this post.  Squidoo allows you to set up a “Lens” or a page describing a subject you would like to discuss.  The page can be linked back to your website thus creating a back link.

I set up a page on Squidoo for 509 Media in hopes of improving SEO for the website.  Please visit my 509 Media Squidoo Page.  For more details on Squidoo please visit their website.  It is a free service to use.  They will actually pay you money to post on the site based on traffic you generate.  No, I am not posting this article in hopes that you will visit my Squidoo page.  I am writing to inform others on free ways to better SEO.

If you need help with Search Engine Optimization on your website please contact 509 Media for more details.  Adding your site to Squidoo is not the only thing you should do for SEO.  This is only one small idea to make your site more visible on the net. You should take all of the proper steps to improve your site’s Search Engine Optimization.

If you found this article helpful please comment below and post a link to it somewhere on the net.  See I am trying to get you to help me with back links.

Thanks for reading,

Dan DuBose

Blue Torch Fab Fusion Chassis Wrap

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

dsc_4440Mike George wanted to wrap his 4 seat Blue Torch Fab Fusion Chassis with a graphic to play off of the orange paint on the hood.  Mike and his son hit trails around the south east with this well built buggy.  It features a RamJet 502 fuel injected engine with 4 link suspensions front and rear.  The side body panels that are wrapped were fabricated from 1/8 inch aluminum plate.  It is a little thick for body panels but he wanted panels that could be beat out when he bends them.  Yes, when he bends them.  This buggy gets used and beat on the hardest southern trails.

Typically speaking a wrap like this can be designed and shipped out to you.  If you want to wrap the body panels on your buggy feel free to contact 509 Media for details.  We will instruct you on what we need to dimension your body panels.  Setting up for the wrap is not a huge deal so do not worry about the process too much.  This is something we have done many times.

You can find more information on the Fusion Chassis by visiting Blue Torch FabWorks in Birmingham, AL.  You can purchase the chassis as 2 seat or 4 seat chassis.

Tailgate Wraps For Your Truck Or SUV

Bluetorchfab Tailgate Wrap

Tailgate Wrap

Over the past few years I have printed a few tailgate wraps to advertise my own business. During which a few friends and customers have asked me to design tailgate wraps for their trucks. A tailgate wrap is referring to wrapping ONLY the tailgate of a pickup or SUV. This is a very cost effective way to advertise your company and keep the cost way down.

Typically a tailgate wrap can be purchased and installed for under $250 dollars. The price has a lot to do with how much time is spent on the design. In other words if you want a complicated design then the price will reflect the added time needed to complete the project.

I would like to point out you do not have to use this to only advertise a business. If you want a custom scene on the tailgate just for the purpose of adding some style and color to your truck then we can do mix it up for you.

If you would like to get started on a tailgate wrap be sure to CONTACT 509 Media for details.

I have done tailgate wraps for Chevy, Dodge, Ford, and Toyota trucks. If I do not have a template for your truck I can make one very easily.

RC Car Graphics Skull Sheet

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

I have been into radio control cars for most of my life.  Naturally I guess since I am so involved with full size vehicles.  Seems I can leave nothing alone after buying it.  I am the guy who chops up a new car just to make it look different.  The same goes for rc cars, rc buggy, and rc rock crawlers.  One way to make a rc size wraps.  The sheets pictured below are not cut to fit any certain body.  The graphic area is 16 inches by 16 inches.  You can cut and fit the graphic to your rc body, controller, charger, tool box, or what ever else you can get it to fit on.

The Skull Pattern graphic is printed on 3M Controltac Vinyl and laminated to protect the vinyl.  This is the same vinyl we use to wrap full size race cars, and race trailers.  The vinyl is very easy to install.  With a little heat you can get it to conform around curves.

The sheets sell for $19.99 each. (plus shipping)

We are working to get our online store up.  In the mean time you can still order.  Contact us using the contact page.  We will provide you with out paypal address.
