Vinyl Banners for Boyd Welding

Monday, December 20th, 2010

Full color banners for Boyd Welding in Ocala, Florida.  Boyd Welding will be attending an event January 2, 2011 and needed full color banners to better promote their brand and products.  Two different banner graphic designs were needed to complete this project.  The first design is a 3 foot tall by 8 foot long banner  to advertise product and the  Boyd Welding brand identity.  The second banner design is to “wrap” around for the bottom of a standard folding table.  The table will be spaced up off the ground so we made the banner to the specified 3 foot tall by 14 feet long.  This banner will hang across the front of the table and wrap around each side of the table leaving the back of the table open.  Wrapping a table with a banner in this way helps promote your company brand and also provides a perfect place to hide inventory you are selling at an event.

The banners are being printed on a matte finish 13 oz banner material.  Matte finish banners show up well in photographs because they do not reflect the camera flash as bad. The banners will receive grommets every 2 feet around the outside for easy hanging.

Boyd Welding offers a complete line of custom fuel cells for offroad trucks, rock crawlers, diesel trucks, and more.  Be sure to check them out.boyd_36x168_banner

Windmills driving your business forward

Sunday, November 28th, 2010

I went to the Dothan Area Botanical Gardens this afternoon with my wife and children to take pictures for the family Christmas cards.  As were were walking around the Botanical Gardens I noticed the windmill pictured below.  The old windmill caught my attention. With no on in sight to operate the windmill it stood there spinning in the wind.  It continued to operate the water pump attached at the base.  The old company branding on the windmill also made me think.  If you do not have advertising up at all times how can you expect to gain new customers.  You have to put the right advertising up and in a way which demands attention.  Advertising is a tool that will work for you even when you sleep.

Windmills are impressive structures which draw attention from both young and old.  They stand firm over surrounding objects ready to do what they were designed to do.  By design windmills were meant to convert wind into a more useful energy source.  The windmill design may have changed  over the centuries, but they still take an energy source with little value to produce a product with value. Advertising can be worth more than the paper it is printed on if used correctly.  Maybe the following ramble will make you think.

If you think about some of the common things a windmill has to offer and how it might relate to business you may be surprised.  I know some of you reading might think this comparison is simple or wonder why I am even posting this.  The reason for this post is to make you think about the fundamentals of business and how you need to stand prepared.

  • What is a windmill?  A windmill can be traced back to ancient Tibet and China during the 4th B.C., and all throughout the history of the windmill it has been meant to convert wind energy to rotational energy.  Once converted Humans have found innovative ways to use the energy to lessen and make human labor more efficient.  If you would like to make a windmill comparison to your business model you can certainly do so.  In business we build methods to make business more efficient and stand ready to answer the call of our customers.  A windmill’s blades are called sails.  In the case of a business sails can be viewed as advertising.  Without advertising or some way to pull customers in to spend money your business can not convert employee labor to profit.  As a business owner you must have your sails up at all times prepared to pull in new customers.  A business with no sails up will have a difficult time gaining momentum and market share.
  • By design many windmills have the ability to turn and face the wind for maximum efficiency.  In business it is imperative to have the ability to adjust your sails (advertising) for the best possible return on investment.  Advertising can be expensive and you must use it correctly if you plan to grow your business.  You must make sure your advertising campaign has direction and the ability to adjust with the market place and outside trends.  Is your windmill ready to change with the flow of business if needed? Olwin Machine Shop and Fabrication Business Cards

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

Derrick Olwin contacted me wanted a custom business card design different than the typical business cards handed to him daily.  After emailing over the Olwin Machine and Fabrication logo design I went to work creating something to make his customers take a second look.  On the logo side of the card you will see an actual size ruler printed on the card.  The ruler will allow people to measure small items with the business card. My personal background involves metal fabrication and machining, and from experience I can tell you want common objects measure.  For instance when you are out in the field knowing a typical business card measures 2 x 3.5 inches can help you use it as a reference to measure things.  I also know that US paper currency measures 2.5 x 6 inches.  The point is common objects in your pocket can be utilized for secondary roles if needed.  Most people do not realize simple objects can be used to measure things.509_business_cards_olwinmachine

The Olwin Machine shop business card design features Spot UV highlighting the company logo on both sides of the business card.  Spot UV defines certain areas of the business card design to shine and the rest of the print matte finish.  Spot UV creates a feeling of depth in the business card design.

The information side of the business card layout features a simple name plate style design.  The name plate look is similar to those found on machines, electric motors, and other industrial equipment.  The reason why I choose the name plate idea for this business card design was to add something extra rather than simply detailing the name, address, and telephone numbers.

If you would like to talk about business cards designs be sure to contact me anytime.  I am more than certain I can design something to fit any style of business.

King of the Hammers Laptop Skin

Friday, November 19th, 2010

Offroad racing, rock crawling, and competition is what King of the Hammers (KOH) is all about.  Dave Cole and Jeff Knoll along with many others helping out have done an awesome creating a paradigm shift within the offroad world.  King of the Hammers has not only attracted world classes drivers and chassis builders from the rock crawling side of the sport the same can be said for desert racing.  KOH takes the very best of rock crawling and desert racing and jams them together in what many claim as the toughest one day offroad race in the world.  I koh_laptop_skincan say from first hand experience and a custom chassis fabricator KOH is both fun and challenging.  I am looking forward to more trips to the dry lake bed to participate in this great event.

In recent months I created a new business card design for Jeff Knoll and Dave Cole to represent King of the Hammers.  Jeff called a couple weeks ago wanting to take the business card design and create a vinyl wrap for his laptop.  The idea was to not only cover scratches, but create a branding tool with the laptop.  The graphic design was to be simple and match the business card layout.  After a couple quick emails the graphic design was completed.

The vinyl wrap or skin as many people call them will be printed on high quality 3M CV3 vinyl and then laminated before installation.  The clear over laminate is put in place to protect the print and provide a long lasting graphic for the laptop.  The adhesive side of the skin has air release technology to ease the installation process and eliminate air bubbles.

Be sure to check out King of the Hammers online.

The Right Marketing Tools For The Job

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

Would you hire a plumber to repair the drain in your kitchen if they did not have the proper tools to complete the task?  It would be a safe to assume the job would not be completed if the plumber attempted the repair without the proper tools.  The same goes in many other situations.  Would you go on a sales call to present your goods or services to a potential client without the proper tools?  I doubt that you would.  If you did chances are you will not make a positive impression on the potential client.

So what are the proper tools to market your company?  This post may seem a little basic to some, but I challenge you to read on.  Often times as a business owner I get busy in the moment as many others do.  Some of the fundamentals need to always be in place to ensure we have the proper tool for the job.  The following list is merely a starting point to market your company.  You will need to put more marketing tools in your toolbox.

RockCrawler.com WordPress Theme

Friday, November 5th, 2010

rockcrawler_wordpress_themeMy personal history has included rock crawling for many years.  So many in fact I can remember when people started calling it rock crawling and when the original owner of the website started it up.  Rock Crawling is basically taking an a 4×4 off-road vehicle and driving it over large rocks, and mountains.  It is crawling because of the slow speeds and technical driving needed to complete a trail.  The past few years have brought a few paradigm shifts to the sport of rock crawling.  The biggest change in recent years is King of the Hammers (KOH).  KOH mixes slow speed rock crawling with high speed desert racing.  Rockcrawler.com has taken notice of this paradigm shift and covers KOH style off-road racing. Method Motorsports Custom Website Design

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

Method Motorsports is a new business headed up by Kevin Carey who has many years experience in the offroad sport. Kevin didn’t want a typical online store where a vendor presents methodmotorsports_wordpressparts and asks for orders.  He wanted to build an informational offroad website describing different “methods” to building an offroad vehicle tailored for the owner’s need.  I know from owning a large offroad business for many years people tend to buy what they think they need rather than what they really need. Often times the result of this is spending more money than they needed to.  Method Motorsports will offer advise on what should be purchased and in what order it should be purchased without breaking the budget.

James Firearm Business Card Design

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

jamesfirearm_businesscardsJames Firearm has been a great company to work with designing a custom business card and logo design.  The business card design features pictures I took at a local gun store with my Nikon D5000 with a 18-55 lens.  I must admit getting some funny looks as other customs walked by as I positioned .223 rounds in a row for pictures.  For those interested in the pictures I used a little bit of salt on the table to keep the bullets from rolling away while trying to take the picture.  Once the bullets were placed in position I blew any excess salt away.  The information side of the card features a close up image of a Smith and Wesson receiver which was taken with the same camera.
