Vinyl Cut Stickers for Kombi Ice Cream Truck

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

vintage_icecream_truck

509 Media prints full color graphics for vehicle wraps on a regular basis.  When Kombi Ice Cream presented the project to us for designing graphics for their 60′s model VW bus we thought simple vinyl cut stickers would help maintain the vintage feel of the project. The idea was for the end product to look more vintage and in place with the era of the classic VW bus.  The VW bus will be used as an ice cream truck at car shows around the USA.  The owners of Kombi Ice Cream are passionate about their vehicles and ice cream.  Car shows can be a niche market for many different products.  Kombi Ice Cream should have a great platform to operate from.

Vinyl cut stickers like the ones applied to the ice cream truck can be cut in a wide range of colors and applied to a many different surfaces.  The vinyl stickers can be removed at a later date.  Vinyl cut stickers can be cut to custom shapes, lettering, and more.

509 Media did print full color vinyl for menu boards on the Kombi Ice Cream project.  The menu boards are placed on the inside of the side doors.  The full color printed vinyl was mounted on Max-Metal to also serve as the door panels.  Stay tuned for another post on this.

Grayway Trucking Vinyl Lettering and Partial Trailer Wrap

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

dsc_9353Grayway Trucking in Chipley, Florida asked if we could do a partial wrap to cover an area on their trailer where a logo was removed.  The trailer was purchased from another company and needed the letters removed and replaced to represent Grayway Trucking.  Here at 509 Media we recommended to do a large graphic design to cover the area where the old lettering was.  The large print on the trailer measures 3 feet tall by 15 feet long.  We also printed and contour cut the Grayway Trucking logo design for the doors of the tractor and the rear door of the trailer.

The DOT and MC numbers were cut from matte finish black and placed on the cab of the tractor.  DOT law states that the numbers have to be 2 inches tall and must be readable from 50 feet away while the vehicle is stationary.  509 Media cuts DOT and MC numbers all the time.  If you need vinyl DOT numbers for your truck feel free to contact 509 Media for a quote.

Sponsor Board for Fletcher’s Customs

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

dsc_8792Chad at Fletcher’s Customs hit me up there other day for a custom Sponsor Board for a race industry trade show held in the Chicago area.  When he called to give me the address I laughed because I was flying there to work a trade show booth for JMR Manufacturing.

The customer supplied a thumb drive loaded with the logos needed.  We took them and put together a sponsor board to highlight the many companies who helped out with the car.  While walking the trade show I stopped by the BMR booth to check out the car and to see the sponsor board in use.

The graphics were printed on 3M CV3 and laminated.  The vinyl was then applied to Coroplast which is a plastic cardboard type material.  Coroplast is corrugated for strength.  The graphic was then trimmed to the edge for a clean finish.  The end result is a very clean and effective sponsor board that can be used at car shows, trade shows, and other display settings.

Reflective Vinyl Cut Stickers for Cottonwood Rescue Ambulance

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

Cottonwood Rescue 509 Media 3Last week a friend of mine with the Dothan Police Department referred Cottonwood Rescue to me to letter their new ambulance.  The ambulance was purchased used from the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.  Upon receiving the ambulance it still had a 6 inch wide orange reflective vinyl stripe which did not match the other ambulances in the Cottonwood Rescue fleet.  The state requires all ambulances within a company to have the same fleet graphic colors.  At least that is what Cottonwood Rescue explained to me.

The first task at hand was to replace the orange reflective stripe with blue reflective vinyl.  The blue reflective vinyl was cut on our plotter to 6.120″ wide from a 24 inch wide roll of 6.9 mil, 7 year outdoor durable reflective vinyl. Once the blue stripe was in place we could place the rest of the vinyl graphics on the ambulance.  We cut the “star of life” logo and placed it on each side with Cottonwood Rescue above.  They requested their slogan “Just a Heartbeat Away” with a heart rhythm line to be placed on each side of the ambulance below the star of life graphic.  We also cut Cottonwood Rescue from the blue reflective vinyl and placed it on the drivers and passenger doors to match the other ambulances in their fleet.  From there we had a few other small elements to cut and place on the ambulance.  They requested “Cottonwood” to be places on the rear doors in blue.  The last of the blue added to the ambulance included “911″ being placed on the rear and each side toward the rear of the ambulance.

After all of the blue reflective vinyl was completed we then cut the truck number and a 5.5″ tall “Ambualnce” from orange 6.9 mil, 7 year outdoor durable reflective vinyl.  The truck numbers were placed on the front fenders on top of the blue stripe and one on the rear of the ambulance.  The two “Ambulance” words were placed on top of the blue stripe on the sides of the ambulance.

509 Media offers a wide range of services for fleet graphics including simple vinyl cut graphics like used in this project as well as vehicle wraps, trailer wraps, and more.  Be sure to contact us with any questions you may have.  We can assist you in a marketing plan to fit any budget.  If you need 509 to graphic design your artwork or if you want to provide print ready artwork we can assist you. Perforated Window Vinyl

Window Perf Pealed back to show adhesive side.

Over the weekend I decided to put together a post covering Perforated Window Vinyl also called Window Perf.  The main purpose of perforated window vinyl is to display a graphic on a window and allow visibility from inside the building or vehicle.  Window perf is a printable vinyl that has holes to allow light through.  The holes determine print quality.  On a 50/50 window perf you have 50 percent graphic coverage and 50 percent holes.  With 70/30 you can get a little better print quality because the graphic is covering more of the surface.  I would like to point out 50/50 is easier to see through.  In automotive use you might want to see a little better.

Perforated Window Vinyl can be used in many different applications.  It can cover store front windows and vehicle windows with an advertisement or other graphic. Perforated Window Vinyl is a good choice for vehicle wraps when you want to carry design elements larger.  Other uses for Perforated Window Vinyl can be wrapping tail lights on a camo wrapped truck.  The idea here is to print the camo pattern on perf and then wrap the tail light.  The red light will show through the holes when the lights are on.

Window Perf Print Side

Just about any graphic or photograph can be printed on Perforated Window Vinyl.  Keep in mind when printing large format the image quality and size does matter.  When printing on perf you can get away with a lower quality images because all of the little holes will take away from the print quality a little.

If you have a custom Perforated Window Vinyl project that you would like to discuss please feel free to contact me.

You can see in the pictures the adhesive side of the vinyl is dark and the print side is white.  The back side is dark so the light coming through will be brighter than the vinyl allowing you to see through the perf.

Country Crossing

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

country-crossCountry Crossing in Dothan, AL is set for this week’s grand opening.  I got a call from a friend’s sign shop today for a last minute sign.  Country Crossing needed a sign for the entrance to the Fairground Area of the facility.  The sign is 4 foot x 8 foot.  It is printed on 3M Controltac Vinyl.  The vinyl will be placed on Coroplast.

Coroplast can be described as plastic cardboard. “Coroplast comes in a variety of styles, all based upon the Coroplast high quality corrugated plastic sheet. Our standard sheet has been treated to allow for excellent adhesion quality to aid in printing for the graphics arts fields. It is also extremely durable because it is waterproof and resistant to stains and most chemicals.”  For more information be sure to visit the Coroplast website.  I like to use Coroplast because it is very easy to cut to custom shapes.  Coroplast cancoro9 be cut to the shape of your logo or design.  I printed a life size person a while back and applied it to Coroplast.  I then cut out the person on the Coroplast to make it a stand up sign.

Be sure to visit the Country Crossing website.  Country Crossing is a good thing for the Dothan area.  It will bring big named entertainers to the area.  The facility will help add to the local economy as people will be traveling from other areas for the live music and other entertainment.  I personally feel it is a good thing for the area.

PLEASE NOTE. I DID NOT DESIGN THE LOGO OR THE SIGN.  I PRINTED WHAT WAS GIVEN TO ME BY ANOTHER DESIGNER HERE IN TOWN.

Vinyl Graphics for Red Bull Rock Crawlers

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

diagonallowrear1

Dustin and Becca Webster from the Red Bull Rock Crawlers have become great friends over the years. In 2006 I had the opportunity to build them a new and improved competition rock crawler at my former business Blue Torch FabWorks.  Rob “Bender” Park was working for me at the time and was the lead guy on the project.  Bender did an awesome job working with Dustin to get them what they wanted.

The graphics on the crawler were for the most part printed.  The only elements that were simple vinyl cut letters are the driver and spotter name stickers.  Red Bull sent over the official files to print the Red Bull.  Please do not send an email asking for the files because I can not share them with you.

dsc_3006The entire project was a lot of fun.  Even going down to a local dealership to take pictures for the fake tail lights I printed.  If you look close in the artwork you will see a picture of bender holding his hand out with a flame on it.  I decided to put Benders face in the tail light as a little way of saying thanks for all of the effort in helping this project come together.  In the above picture you can see the Blue Torch Fab logo hidden in the other printed tail light wrap.

Check out the pics.  Post a comment below if you want to know more. Visit Blue Torch Fab for more information on the shop.  I sold the business in September 2009 and no longer build rock crawlers as a business.  The new owner, Jason, will be more than happy to assist you if you are looking to have a rock crawler built.

Full Color Banners and Wall Graphic for Pizza To Go in Dothan, AL

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

pizza_kastle_wall_wrapPizza Kastle in Dothan, AL located at the entrance of Sam’s Club expanded to a local Pizza To Go and Ice Cream.  The satellite location is located on the corner of Main Street and South Alice.  They are serving pizza and ice cream to go.  It is a locally owned restaurant and not a large franchise organization.  Be sure to drop by and pick up your five dollar pizza.

The owner of the restaurant contacted me through a friends sign shop here in Dothan to print a pizza to go on the wall behind the cash register.  The pizza was to be 52 inches wide and roughly 36 inches tall.  The image going on the wall is a high resolution image suitable for large format printing.  The pizza printed for the wall was printed on 3M Controltac and laminated to protect the inks. We have a couple other digital prints we are working on for the pizza restaurant.  Two full color banners will be placed outside the store.istock_000001929314largepizza

The first banner printed in a 40 inch wide and 60 inch tall banner that will be placed on a brick column outside the main entrance.  The banner is printed on 13 oz banner to withstand the elements outdoors.  The second banner will be 36 inches tall and 96 inches wide.  It will feature store information including the telephone number. If you are interested in seeing the banners in person be sure to visit the Pizza To Go location in Dothan, Alabama.

pizza_banner_3The use of full color digitally printed banners can provide a more professional look for your business while keeping the warm small business feel.  When compared to vinyl cut lettering I feel digital prints win.  Today while driving around town I was looking at local banners advertising this service or that event.  A common problem with most of them was the banners had far too many words.  Who driving by the banner has time to read a book.  The banners should pick 1-3 key things to convey and no more.  When using images along with text you create an appealing banner that draws the eye to it.  Banners, billboards, and print ads with too many words will turn off the majority of people.  The first banner printed for the Pizza To Go place has no wording.  it is just an image.  The building already has the logo all over it.  I thought the banner would speak more on it’s own.  After all what do you think when you see a pizza picture?  You think pizza.  With the company name one signs all around the image there is no need to repeat it.

Nicole Johnson’s Rock Crawler Wrap

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

f_dsc_0808_1

Frank and Nicole Johnson have been friends of mine for many years. Frank and Nicole have been in and around the sport of rock crawling for many years.  The Red Bull Rock Crawler team headed up by Dustin and Becca Webster call on Frank for his world class spotting abilities from time to time.  Frank was Becca Webster’s spotter for Team Red Bull in the past.  Things have changed.  Now Frank is spotting for the popular driver Nicole Johnson who also happens to be his wife.  They make a great pair.  It is always a good time watching henderson3them work together.

Frank and Nicole Johnson compete in events such as WE Rock and King of the Hammers under the banner of Johnson Motorsports.  Be sure to visit the Johnson’s website for more info on the team and tons of pictures.

Nicole’s first buggy to compete with was as huge four seat chassis going up against smaller purpose built buggies.  Even with the over sized buggy Nicole found her way to be competitive. One the first buggy I designed and printed a couple different wraps for the buggy to feature her sponsors, and give the buggy a little more color for the magazines. The wraps just covered the side panels.  Check out the pics and leave a comment below.  In her second season they bought a new buggy from Shannon Campbell which put her finishing a lot better and gaining even more attention from sponsors and media.
