How to add a RSS feed into your HTML website.

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Billboard_Feed_512x512If you are searching for a way to incorporate an RSS Feed into your static HTML website you have a few options.  One of the easiest ways to get your blog posts to show up on your HTML site home page is to use a free service on the net to generate the code for you.  If you are good enough with code to write your own RSS Includes code then you have no reason to read this post.  If you would like a very easy solution you can do an online search for “Add an RSS Feed to a HTML website”.  You will get a number of results that will work for you.  I would like to add you can use this same method to add an RSS feed to other types of websites.  For instance I am adding a feed at the bottom of this page.

If you visit RSS-Info you will find a very simple to use online form to generate the needed code to add an RSS feed to your website.  Here is a link to RSS-Info’s online code generator. LINK TO RSS-Info Please keep in mind RSS-Info’s website is just one example of a an online code generator.  Be sure to search around and find what works best for your need.

While visiting the RSS-Info website if you want to try out the form just enter the web address to your RSS feed.  Here is an example which is a link to the 509 Media Feed Page.  It will generate an example of what the feed will look like on your website at the bottom of the page.  You can make many changes on the online form to better suit your needs.  Be sure to change the number of posts to have in the feed if you do not want 10 of your most recent posts to show.

The same type form can be used to show recent comments on your blog.  If you want a Twitter Feed on your home page you can use the form to add Twitter updates to your website.  If you want to use my Twitter feed to try out on the form here is the link to my Dan DuBose Twitter RSS Feed.

If you found this post helpful please leave a comment below.  Feel free to repost this as long as you back link here to my site.  Thanks for reading.  If you need to hire a web designer feel free to contact 509 Media anytime.

Here is what the code generated will look like on your site.  Of course the information in the feed will be from blog URL you put in the form.  In the example below I used an RSS Feed from the Graphic Design Blog.  I set the form to 500 pixels wide, to show only 2 most recent entries, and changes the colors to suit my needs.

Social Media – A History of Social Media and Social Media Marketing

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

social-media-300x214Just about everyone reading this post has a Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, or a combination of them.  Social Media over the past decade has turned in BIG business generating billions of dollars.  Many companies are now focusing some of their marketing effort to social media because it is so simple to reach a large group of people with your message.  I have created a couple successful business by using social media and online forums to advertise.  The days of traditional marketing are gone.  It is time to pull the gloves off and fight for business.

I found an article today outlining the history of social media.  I thought it was a great write up so I contacted the author to ask if I could post it here.  Within a couple minutes a response was in my inbox.

Social Media – A History of Social Media and Social Media Marketing

“FRIENDSTER, MYSPACE, FACEBOOK, TWITTER – what more can we have in the coming years? These social networking sites have been setting the whole online world ablaze for several years now. Today, new words have been lexiconized like tweet, digg, wall posts, aggregator, atom feeds, blog and the like. Many of these have become household names to some extent.

The comfy lifestyle and convenience that these social networking sites have brought to internet savvy users have become much priceless that tens of millions of people have been signing up, updating and maintaining their social media pages daily or to some extent, even 24/7. Several years back, on the early conception period of these online social media sites, the situation was much different than it is today.

To say that social networking sites have improved is an understatement. In all fairness, the social networking market has grown and heightened by light years in a span of a decade or so. To measure the extent of improvement that social networking have achieved and surpassed, it is necessary to open the book of its times of yore- how was social networking in the past decade and how far has social networking trekked in that span of years?

A brief history of Social Networking sites would be a good place to start off before we get into how Social Media has evolved.”

Rockstar Personal Branding

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

“Personal branding isn’t very different than product branding, except that the entity being branded is you. Just like Nike uses its brand to attach a certain personality and uniqueness to the shoes it sells, your personal brand is made up of the qualities and unique traits you relay about yourself. Your personal brand represents the way you want other people to think about you.

Personal branding hinges on perception and the stories you tell about yourself: the things you emphasize and the things you don’t. Does personal branding involve lying? It shouldn’t. More than that, it shouldn’t have to. You don’t need to be a rockstar to build an extraordinary personal brand.” — From Rockstar Personal Branding by Skellie

Some may be wondering why I am posting this on 509 Media.  509 Media is in the business to help people with branding.  Branding a product, person, or service is very important in the market place.  The more known the brand the further your footprint in your given industry will reach.  Personal Branding is much like branding a product.  If people know you and your service the comfort level in doing business with you will be higher.  In the past I worked very hard to build a company brand, but at the same time I was working to build a personal brand.  I wanted people to know if they do business with me I would take care of them.  I wanted them to know I was a knowledgeable resource in my industry.  I wanted them to know if I didn’t have the correct answer I would get it.  Person branding in some ways can be like building trust in the market place.
